Pfizer Licenses Enhanze Technology

Halozyme is eligible to receive milestones and royalties

Halozyme Therapeutics has entered into a worldwide collaboration and license agreement with Pfizer to develop and commercialize products combining Pfizer biologics with Halozyme’s Enhanze technology. Enhanze is based on the Halozyme’s recombinant human hyaluronidase enzyme (rHuPH20).

Pfizer has a worldwide license to develop and commercialize products combining rHuPH20 with its biologics for as many as six targets. Halozyme will receive an initial payment of $8 million, which includes an upfront fee for exclusive licenses to two specified therapeutic targets, and the right for Pfizer to elect as many as four additional targets. Halozyme is eligible to receive additional payments based on development, regulatory and sales-based milestones, totaling $507 million, as well as royalties on sales of any licensed products.

“I am delighted about this opportunity, as it has the potential to enhance Pfizer’s ability to optimize treatments for patients,” said Jose Carlos Gutierrez-Ramos, senior vice president, Pfizer BioTherapeutics R&D.

“We look forward to working with Pfizer to apply Enhanze to these exciting targets,” said Gregory I. Frost, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer, Halozyme. “Enhanze enables biologics to be delivered as a simple subcutaneous injection.”
